Governor Alex Otti has constituted the Abia Labour Party campaign council ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

ABIA STATE: Abia Labour Party 2027 Campaign Council has been constituted by Governor Alex C. Otti ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with the governor himself named chairman and former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, appointed Director-General.
The campaign council, according to a press release signed by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, comprises state directors, zonal coordinators and constituency coordinators across Abia.
Governor Otti’s deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, was appointed vice chairman of the council.
The appointments represent a formal campaign structure for the Labour Party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Who Is Leading Otti’s 2027 Campaign Council?
Governor Otti will serve as Chairman, while Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu will serve as Vice Chairman.
Agwu U. Agwu, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Abia State University, Uturu, was named Director-General.
Other state-level appointments are:
- Director of Finance: Dr. Eric Egwuibe
- Director of Strategy/Planning: Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili
- Director of Legal: Mr. Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN
- Director of Publicity: Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka
- Director of Special Duties: Dr. Christian Anokwuru
- Director of Security: AIG Arungwa Nwazue (Rtd.)
The structure places responsibility for finance, strategy, legal affairs, publicity, special duties and security under designated directors.
Three Zonal Coordinators Named
The campaign council will also operate through the three senatorial zones of Abia.
The appointed zonal coordinators are:
Abia Central: Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna
Abia North: Chief Emeka Charles Kalu
Abia South: Hon. Chimaobi Ebisike
The zonal structure is expected to link the central campaign leadership with constituency-level campaign activities across the state.
24 Constituency Coordinators Appointed
The campaign council also includes coordinators for the various state constituencies listed in the announcement.
They are:

The appointments create a campaign structure extending from the state leadership through the three senatorial zones to constituency-level coordination.
When Will The Campaign Council Be Inaugurated?
The newly constituted Abia Labour Party 2027 Campaign Council is scheduled to be inaugurated on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The inauguration is scheduled for 12 noon at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
According to the announcement, all members of the council are expected to be seated before the arrival of Governor Otti.
The event is expected to formally set the campaign structure in motion as political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election continue to develop.
Agwu Agwu Takes Charge As Campaign DG
The appointment of Agwu U. Agwu as Director-General places the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly at the centre of the campaign’s operational leadership.
Independent reporting on the appointments also confirmed Agwu’s emergence as Director-General and identified the council as a multi-level structure spanning the state’s three senatorial zones and constituency areas.
The council will have to coordinate activities across a politically diverse state, with campaign responsibilities distributed among state directors, zonal coordinators and constituency-level officials.
Otti’s Campaign Structure Comes As 2027 Politics Intensifies
The formation of the campaign council comes as political parties and candidates in Abia continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In recent weeks, Labour Party activities in Abia have included efforts to consolidate support around Otti and other party candidates.
The governor has also publicly discussed the future of political leadership in Abia. In September, Otti said he would not impose a successor after his tenure and that the people would ultimately determine who succeeds him.
The latest campaign appointments, however, are specifically focused on the 2027 governorship election and the organisation of the Labour Party’s campaign activities across the state.
