Real Madrid defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 to record their third consecutive Champions League league-phase win.

Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 on Wednesday night to maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League, but it was substitute Yan Diomande who stole the spotlight with a goal and an assist against his former club.
Bernardo Silva, Arda Güler, Kylian Mbappé and Diomande scored as Madrid secured their third consecutive victory in the league phase at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 21.
Leipzig competed strongly during the opening half but struggled to contain Madrid after the interval. Tidiam Gomis scored a late consolation for the visitors, but Diomande’s spectacular volley restored the three-goal margin and sealed the result.
The victory leaves José Mourinho’s side with nine points from three matches, strengthening their position as they pursue a place in the competition’s knockout rounds.
Bernardo Silva Breaks the Deadlock for Real Madrid
Leipzig started positively and created some of the clearest opportunities during the first half.
Thibaut Courtois was called into action to deny Rômulo, while Christopher Nkunku also failed to beat the Madrid goalkeeper in a dangerous one-on-one situation.
Madrid gradually gained control, and their breakthrough arrived just before half-time.
Arda Güler’s effort was saved by Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt, but Bernardo Silva reacted quickly to the rebound and finished from close range in the 44th minute.
The goal gave Madrid a crucial advantage after a competitive opening period in which Leipzig had threatened to take the lead.

Arda Güler and Mbappé Extend Madrid’s Lead
Madrid returned from the break with greater attacking purpose and doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute.
Jude Bellingham delivered a cross into the penalty area, and Kylian Mbappé headed the ball back across goal for Güler to finish from close range.
Leipzig continued searching for a response, but Madrid’s attacking quality became increasingly difficult to contain as the game progressed.
Mbappé made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute, curling a superb right-footed effort into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area after a pass from Diomande.
The French forward’s goal appeared to put the contest beyond Leipzig’s reach, although the visitors responded almost immediately.
Leipzig Respond, but Diomande Produces the Final Word
Two minutes after Mbappé’s goal, substitute Tidiam Gomis pulled one back for Leipzig.
Christoph Baumgartner supplied the assist, allowing Gomis to finish and reduce the deficit to 3-1 in the 85th minute.
However, Madrid restored their three-goal advantage in the 87th minute through Diomande.
The young forward connected with a delivery from Brahim Díaz and struck a powerful right-footed volley into the top corner, completing an impressive individual contribution after coming off the bench.
Diomande’s goal was particularly notable because he had previously played for Leipzig before joining Madrid.
His goal and assist against his former club made him one of the defining figures of the encounter.
Real Madrid Maintain Perfect Champions League Record
The 4-1 result gives Madrid three wins from three matches in the Champions League league phase, leaving them on nine points.
Leipzig, meanwhile, remain on three points after recording one victory and two defeats in their opening three fixtures.
Madrid’s performance also provided encouragement ahead of their upcoming La Liga Clásico against Barcelona, although the Champions League victory does not determine the outcome of that domestic fixture.
Courtois played an important role in keeping Leipzig scoreless during the first half, while Bernardo Silva and Güler supplied key goals before Mbappé and Diomande delivered the decisive moments late in the match.
For Leipzig, the opening half offered evidence of their ability to trouble elite opposition, but defensive difficulties after the break ultimately proved costly.
